Treasures of Morocco - rose

Rose has been used for centuries to make rose water and oil. The town of el Kala M’gouna, located at the foot of the mountains at 1,470 meters above sea level in the Valley of the Roses (Dades), is famous for it. In mid-May, the rose harvest begins here, culminating in the Rose Festival, when the streets are decorated with garlands of flowers. Only women participate in the harvest. Every day, each of them collects up to 25 kilograms of flakes. It takes about 3 tons of rose petals to produce a kilogram of rose oil. Rose products are used in the kitchen and in cosmetics.
